Pakistani Filmmaker Wins Special Mention Award At Jaipur International Film Festival
Pakistani filmmaker and video blogger Namra Nasir made the country proud by winning Special Mention Award in the 11th Jaipur International Film Festival in the short film category.
The budding filmmaker’s short film ‘She For Her’, which highlights the causes of oppression and violence against women, was awarded the special accolade. She said the film highlights the lesser talked about perspective of her topic.
Her film was among the only three Pakistani productions nominated at the festival. The other two were Indus Blues in Feature Documentary and Load Wedding among Feature Films.
The idea around Namra’s film is to create awareness among women to support their gender-fellows and not work against them.
She feels that the video says a lot yet not so much. She talks about negligence, illiteracy, jealousy, ignorance, labels, politics and hatred coming from one woman to another and how instead of empowering one another, women are pushing each other against the wall.
Thus far, her film She For Her has been screened in 12 film festivals, including Women International Film Festival in Pakistan, where the film won 2nd Prize in 2018, Pakistan International Film Festival Asia Peace Film Festival (Pakistan, 2018), Best Seconds Video Competition where it won 3rd Prize (Switzerland, 2018), Sylhet Film Festival (Bangladesh) 2018, Global Youth Film Festival Lakshmipur (Bangladesh, 2018), Velcom Smart Film Festival (Belarus, 2018), Cinepocket Film Festival (Belgium, 2018), Quetta Literary Festival (Pakistan, 2018).
Our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the young filmmakers
