ISLAMABAD: The sugar scandal inquiry commission headed by FIA Director General Wajid Zia is going to present its final report to the government on Thursday.

According to investigative reporter Azaz Syed, the report has held Jahangir Tareen’s JDW group along with 9 other sugar mill owners for tax evasion, sale of sugar to unregistered companies and artificially inflating the market price of sugar. He added that the report is going to be presented to the government on Thursday.

The sugar scandal inquiry commission had been set up by Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier this year to probe into the sudden rise in the sugar prices in January and February of 2020.

A preliminary report leaked out to the media in April had held Jahangir Tareen’s JDW group among various other sugar barons in the country for hoarding sugar, creating artificial shortage and unnecessarily inflating the prices.

Later, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government took the credit for officially releasing the report but Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spokesperson Nadeem Afzal Gondal confirmed while talking to Hamid Mir on Geo’s Capital Talk that the report had been leaked.

The government had announced that a forensic audit will be conducted and the final report will be released on April 25 but the release was delayed at the 11th hour.

Now, however, the report is going to be presented to PM Imran Khan after which he will decide whether to release it or not.
