Musharraf Treason Verdict Against Shariah, Says PM Imran

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his sentiments over the Musharraf high treason judgement saying that it was unconstitutional, illegal and against the shariah, according to a report published in The News.

Law Minister Farogh Naseem said on Thursday, in a press conference, that the government will approach the Supreme Judicial Council to file an appeal against the current Musharraf verdict.

The minister said that the judgment’s statement in paragraph, 66 where Justice Seth had ordered Musharraf’s body to be dragged and hanged, was against the dignity of man. He added that this is against the constitution and Islam.

The Law Minister added that Article 6 of the constitution cannot be used retrospectively and that it is a flaw in the judge’s observation.

He also said that they will file a reference against the judges under Article 209.

The minister moved on to say that Justice Seth is incompetent and this will be taken to the Supreme Court as a case of misconduct. According to him, the judge should not be allowed to be a high court or SC judge.

Special Assistant to the PM on Accountability Shahzad Akbar was accompanying the law minister and said that he was disappointed after reading paragraph 66 of the judgement. He added that the government has its reservations with how the case proceeded and will take them up in the appeal.

He also commented on Justice Seth’s statement and said that it reflects the judge’s personal vendetta.

Special Assistant to the PM on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan added that this judgment was the work of foreign forces who are trying to destroy Pakistan.
