Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman said that Pakistan would be better governed under the presidential system than under the current parliamentary one.

Speaking at an event in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Farman said that the presidential system will bring an end to corruption and the federating units would be strengthened.

"As per my culture and with amendment, I think presidential system will be better here and more efficient, corruption will be reduced, there will be no blackmailing, federating units will be protected and [there will be] equal opportunities for all," Farman said.

Which system suits Pakistan better?

He said the disadvantage of a parliamentary system was that 'you had to make compromises to keep a majority' and that was a negative and problematic thing.

"For an efficient government, you should have the authority to appoint competent people across the country," the KP governor said.

The presidential system vs parliamentary system has stirred quite a debate on social media as people are divided over what's the best out of the two ways to govern Pakistan.

In his vlog for Naya Daur, senior journalist and analyst Raza Rumi said the presidential system has failed 4 times in Pakistan. He says we need consensus on the fact that only a parliamentary system represents the people.

He said that the consensus on 1973 constitution and the consensus on the 18th amendment of 2010 is a sacred trust between public and the state of Pakistan and that trust must not be broken.
