Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the formation of a media wing to 'defend' the government and respond to its opponents. According to Geo News, the media wing is being formed under ministry for information and broadcast. 42 million rupees have been allocated for the new department and the budget has also been approved by the PM.
The digital media will comprise 27 members and will be tasked to promote the government's policies. The report quotes sources as saying that the said amount was not reserved in the annual budget and the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had rejected the summary for formation of the media wing, but the PM went ahead with the approval anyway.
Meanwhile, PM's Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said that reserving supplementary grants is not for the Finance Ministry to decide, adding that the PM used his constitutional authority to give approval to the formation of the media wing.
