Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that quoting Imperial College London’s projection report on coronavirus is “mental slavery of the White people”.

The minister, while taking the floor of the House, said: “Imperial College published a study and now everyone is quoting it all the time. We aren’t ashamed of anything. We will not do mental slavery of the White people.”

He said that ‘world class’ scientists and data analysts of Pakistan have done a great job in forecasting the coronavirus situation. He then quoted a local study, saying that 82% of Pakistanis are satisfied with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s response to the deadly virus.

Last month, Asad Umar had compared the fatal effects of covid-19 with that of road accidents in Pakistan. The minister, while addressing a press briefing at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), said: “Around 4,000 people die in road accidents in the country every month, but we still allow cars on roads, because their necessity is greater than the danger of those accidents.”

Umar, who heads the NCOC, had noted that an average of 24 people were dying every day because of Covid-19 in the country at that time.
