Tableeghi Jamat Chief Charged With Culpable Homicide In India After Spike In Coronavirus Cases
The headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi have been sealed on charge of holding meetings in violation of the social distancing protocol. The chief of India’s Tableeghi Jamaat has also been accused of culpable homicide  for being responsible for the spread of coronavirus in the country.

According to a report in Reuters, thousands of followers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Bangladesh were restricted in quarantine because they are expected to test positive for the virus.

Police filed a case against Saad Kandhalvi, the chief of the religious organization against culpable homicide for violating a ban on big gatherings.

Delhi police also filed an FIR earlier, against the Tableeghi chief and later added Section 304 to it, which can possibly mean going to prison for 10 years.

The Tableeghi Jamaat is one of the world's biggest Sunni Muslim proselytising organisations with followers in more than 80 countries.

Reports have indicated that initially, in India, almost 1500 cases of coronavirus were of people who either attended Tableeghi Jamat gatherings or were indirectly in contact with someone who did.

India's tally of coronavirus infections has since jumped to 12,380, including 414 deaths, as of Thursday.
