Dr Tahirul Qadri Says Farewell To Politics
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has retired from politics and from his party’s chairmanship.

The decision was shared through a video on Minhaj.tv in which Dr Tahirul Qadri said that he was retiring from Pakistani politics, political activities and as the chairman of PAT.

He however informed that he was transferring power to the party’s council and not his sons.

Moreover, Dr Qadri said that the party’s legal battle for the Model Town incident would continue as it was not a matter of politics but was a matter of faith.

The Model Town incident involved the killing of 14 people and the injuring of hundreds by police during protests by PAT activists against the ‘anti-encroachment’ operation outside Dr Qadri’s residence.

Qadri’s organisation, Minhaj ul Quran was formed in 1981, while his political party was formed in 1989. His party was based in the principles of respect for human rights, elimination of poverty, and education for everyone. Dr Qadri has also been a member of the National Assembly in the past.
