First Ever Women's Market Inaugurated In Gilgit-Baltistan Town

In a significant step toward women’s empowerment and economic independence, the first-ever women’s market was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner Anila Mehdi in Madupure Kharmang on Wednesday.

The initiative, spearheaded by a group of local women, aims to provide a platform for women to engage in business activities, whether as entrepreneurs or consumers. The newly established market is expected to not only encourage women to participate in business but also offer them a safe and supportive environment where they can showcase their products and services.

Local women entrepreneurs are now able to sell their goods directly to the public, empowering them to take charge of their economic futures.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Assistant Commissioner praised the initiative as a crucial step toward achieving gender equality and boosting the local economy. She added that this market will not only provide an avenue for women to start and grow their businesses, but it will also promote economic growth and create more job opportunities within the community. It’s a significant milestone for women’s empowerment in Kharmang.

The market is designed to cater to a range of products, from handmade crafts and clothing to fresh produce, offering a diverse selection of goods. It is hoped that the market will also foster a sense of community among women, encouraging networking, cooperation, and knowledge sharing.

The initiative has been welcomed by both local residents and women’s rights groups, who see it as a step forward in breaking down the barriers that often hinder women from entering the business world. For many women, this market offers a chance to gain financial independence, learn new business skills, and contribute to their family’s income. It is also expected to serve as a model for other regions, demonstrating the impact of creating inclusive spaces for women in business.

As the market grows, plans are in place to expand its offerings and further enhance its role as a key resource for women in the area. The inauguration of this first women’s market in Kharmang marks the beginning of a new era of economic opportunity for local women, setting a positive example for other communities to follow.
