National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has submitted its reply in an accountability court, seeking permission to freeze the former president Asif Ali Zardari’ Clifton residence.
The anti-graft watchdog on Monday submitted its reply on an application to freeze PPP supremo’s Karachi’s Clifton residence in the fake accounts case being heard in an accountability court.
In its application, NAB claimed that it had solid evidence that Zardari had constructed his residence in Clifton Karachi with the ill-gotten money. It said that Rs150 million had been paid from the former president’s stenographer’s account for the purchase of the house.
“Asif Zardari failed to provide any evidence that he purchased the Clifton Karachi residence himself,” NAB said, adding that stenographer Mushtaq had accompanied the former president on 104 foreign visits. It further said that the temporary address of Zardari and Mushtaq was House number 8, F-8, Islamabad.
“We had provided a questionnaire regarding the Clifton Karachi residence to Zardari but the PPP co-chairman did not submit a reply on it.”
The court was informed that Mushtaq escaped when he was approached by the bureau for interrogation. The anti-corruption watchdog requested the court to freeze the former president’s Clifton Karachi residence.
