‘Child Pornography Has Become A Business In Pakistan’: FIA Chief Asks Parents To Be More Vigilant
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing Director General Captain (retd) Muhammad Shoaib warned about the rising numbers of child pornography rackets in Pakistan saying that it had become a business in the country.

Speaking on Geo Pakistan, Shoaib said that child pornography has become a business in Pakistan and most of the complaints the agency receives from local as well as international persons are against people who are part of international child pornography rings.

He said that around 20 suspects have been arrested, while some of them have been granted bail. The FIA DG also said that investigations against 50 more individuals are ongoing.

How Do Suspects Lure Children?

Shoaib also talked about the ways in which the suspects work and lure children. He said most of it happens through social media.

Suspects, he said, portray themselves as women or children and lure children into meeting them at a certain place. To this end, he asked parents to be more vigilant and keep an eye on children. He also asked for awareness campaigns for children.

Kasur Scandal and Growing Reports of Child Pornography

The Kasur scandal revealed Pakistan’s the worst case of mass child abuse. The cases took place in Hussain Khanwala village in Kasur district over a span of eight years (2006-2014), where 280-300 children (all male) were subjected to sexual abuse and the gruesome acts were recorded on camera and later sold.

Hundreds of videos of child pornography were discovered. Later, a report on the case revealed that only a few suspects were sentenced. Moreover, according to the report, Punjab was deemed the most dangerous province for children as most cases of violence against children were reported here.
