Remembering Mashal Khan On Second Death Anniversary
On April 2017, Mashal Khan was brutally murdered by a mob on allegations of blasphemy, which were later dismissed by a court.

Today marks his second death anniversary.

An FIR [First Information Report] was registered against 61 people—who were mainly students and employees of the university and a tehsil councilor belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The brutal video of Mashal’s lynching by the mob went viral on social media and sparked an uproar.

Following which, a joint investigation team formed to probe the case found that Mashal hadn’t committed blasphemy. The university administration was also blamed for inciting students after Mashal had openly criticized varsity’s corrupt practices.

Twitter user Hanif Daryab said that "13th April is the second death anniversary of Mashal Khan. We demand this day to be declared national day against religious extremism".

User Staunch Pakistan said that "Somewhere between the labels of 'Tum Kaafir, mein Musalmaan', some people lost a son, a brother and a friend".

User Shayan Ehsan said "The forces of fear marched, he was lynched, murdered and made a horrid example for others to witness. Mashal, a rare glimpse of hope, and the very picture of freedom was brutally killed. The acquitted killers of Mashal who were showered with flowers, which terrified us all".

"May no mother has to go through what Mashal's mother has to go through".
