Ministry of Defence has forwarded a letter to Finance Ministry, seeking 20 percent increase in the salaries of Armed Forces for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020-2021.
“Armed Forces personnel are being affected by due to current price hike owing to the devaluation of rupee, increase in utility bills and ongoing inflation,” the recommendation letter said. It noted that these aforementioned factors have negatively impacted the ‘fiscal space’ and ‘livelihood’ of Armed Forces personnel.
“Total financial impact of revised pay scales is Rs 63.693 billion,” the letter noted while demanding 20 percent increase in the pay scale of Armed Forces in FY 2020-21. The Defence Ministry requested the Ministry of Finance to ‘concur’ the proposal drafted by Joint Staff Headquarters (JSHQ) in consultation with Services Headquarters.
Earlier, Pakistan army’s various departments announced to donate their salaries ‘to support national efforts in fight against COVID-19,’ according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)
The army’s media wing said that scientists, engineers and employees of National Command Authority (NCA) and Strategic Plans Division (SPD) have also contributed their salaries according to their pay scale. Moreover, “Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza also contributed his one month’s pay,” the ISPR added.
