Condolences Pour In After 157 Die In Ethiopian Airline Crash

Condolences poured in after all 157 people on board a new Ethiopian Airlines plane, en route to Nairobi from Addis Ababa,  died after a crash on Sunday morning have survived.

It is not yet clear what caused the plane to crash but BBC reported that the US planemaker Boeing is under scrutiny as it was a second crash involving one of its planes in five months.

The crash killed 157 people, seven of them crew members and one a security official. The passengers were from 35 nations, with the greatest share from Kenya.

Nineteen United Nations staff members were among those killed, the United Nations said.

A video is also making rounds on the social media which is said to show last few moments before the crash.

 



Former US president Barack Obama also sent “deepest” sympathies to the plane crash victims.



UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also released a statement saying that he was saddened by the plane crash.

Pakistani academic Adil Najam condoled the loss of lives and also raised questions over Boeing, saying that this is 2nd brand new Boeing 737Max to crash in 6 months.



People also paid tribute to the victims of the plane crash.

One social media user wrote: “Nigeria loses one of our finest brains. A Professor of African Studies, Late Mr. Pius Adesanmi. #EthiopianAirlineCrash. Still in shock. Goodnight Sir.”



Another social media user paid tribute to the pilot of the plane, saying that the pilot, Captain Yared Mulugeta, was a highly experienced pilot.

“Reports state that he had detected something during flight #ET302 & requested to return to Bole Airport,” the user said.



Moreover, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and India’s top leadership had expressed condolences over the loss of lives.
