The federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Air Marshal Arshad Malik as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for another three years, even after his retirement from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on July 12.
On Tuesday, the cabinet appointed Malik for a period of three years on a deputation basis and he has completed two years of his service as head of the national flag carrier. Since Malik is retiring from the PAF, he will now serve as the PIA head on a contractual basis.
A cabinet member has confirmed that Malik would continue to serve as PIA’s chief executive after his retirement from PAF. “Earlier he was serving on deputation but now his service will continue on contractual basis,” he told English daily DAWN. For the first time, Arshad Malik was appointed as CEO of the national flag carrier in 2019.
In the same session, the cabinet was briefed in detail about the ‘fake licenses’ issue. The cabinet was told that ‘immediate action’ has already been taken against the pilots holding ‘fake’ degrees. Later, the cabinet ordered the authorities to conclude the investigation in this regard on an urgent basis.
