Arshad Nadeem, a renowned javelin thrower from Pakistan, broke a new Olympic record with a tremendous throw of 92.97 meters.
Nadeem added another feather to his crown by winning the gold medal in the final of the javelin throw event. He threw 92.97 meters on his second try, earning him the gold medal.
This throw also broke the previous Olympic mark, which was held by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games.
This is Pakistan's first individual gold medal at the Olympics, as well as its first gold in athletics and any discipline in the previous 40 years.
After 32 years, Pakistan finally earned an Olympic medal. Pakistan last won a medal in 1992, when the national hockey team earned bronze by defeating the Netherlands 4-3 at the Barcelona Olympics.
Meanwhile, India's Neeraj Chopra, who was defending his gold title, threw 89.45 and won silver. Grenada's Anderson Peters won bronze with a throw of 88.54 m.
