Today marks the 40th anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s hanging after a controversial verdict of the Supreme Court that found him guilty of ordering the murder of a political opponent. Over the years, legal experts have termed the Bhutto trial as unjust, unfair and virtually a sham. Even late Justice Nasim Hasan Shah, a judge on that bench, regretted the decision and admitted to caving into pressure. Since last eight years a petition is pending before the Supreme Court to review the verdict with no progress. The apex court should take it up without any further delay; and redeem itself.
