Residents of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi, who organised a protest against the DHA administration and Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) over their failure to clear the area after rainfall, have been receiving threatening phone calls.
An organiser on the condition of anonymity told Naya Daur about threats, which were being used to intimidate the protesters into backing down. It said they were being told not to organise anymore demonstration, saying the number of protesters after these calls have also dwindled.
The DHA and CBC have also rejected the demands of the residents, except the desilting of storm drain and removal of rainwater.
On Tuesday, the residents resorted to an hours-long demonstration outside the office of the CBC, demanding the removal of top CBC and DHA officials.
The protesters also demanded dewatering within the next three days; restoration of power and gas supplies to all phases within 24 hours; reconstruction of infrastructure in 30 days; construction of water drains in 30 days; accountability of officials with a forensic audit of DHA and CBC accounts; and mosquito spray in all phases, reported Dawn.
The residents also sought removal of taxes, including water charges, as, according to them, the CBC was unable to provide water to people living in the housing schemes.
