Karachi is under strict security measures, including a seven-day ban on protests and rallies, as the city hosts the 12th edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS-24). The event, taking place at the Expo Centre from November 19 to 22, 2024, is set to showcase the latest advancements in global defence technology.
The ban, effective from November 18 to 24, was announced by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Monday under Section 144. The decision was made following a request from the Additional Inspector General of Police for the Karachi Range. Public gatherings of more than five people will be prohibited during this period.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the defence exhibition today. Organised by the Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) under the Ministry of Defence, the event aims to promote Pakistan's defence industry on the international stage. IDEAS-24 will feature a variety of activities, including defence technology demonstrations, an international seminar, and the IDEAS Tri-Services Karachi Show. The exhibition will also provide opportunities for business growth through B2B and B2G meetings.
The exhibition will bring together defence industries from around the world to showcase their latest products. Pakistan’s defence industry, both public and private, will present its own defence-related products, meeting international standards.
A new addition to IDEAS-24 will be the Startups Pavilion, supported by the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan Navy Maritime Science and Technology Park (PNMSTP), and National Aerospace and Technology Park (NASTP). This pavilion will highlight innovative technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the defence sector, offering international exposure to young entrepreneurs.
