Despite the government’s decision to extent countrywide lockdown, the confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan will increase swiftly after April 26, according to health experts.
Digital news outlet ProPakistani reported that Professor Masood Hameed Khan, the former vice-chancellor of University of Health Sciences, has predicted that Pakistan is likely to report a large number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities between April 26 and May 10. He believed that these two weeks would be the peak time of the fatal virus across the country.
“The virus takes 50 to 60 days to show its effects around the world. The number of cases in the USA and Europe increased multifold after 50-60 days since its emergence,” the expert noted.
In a video message, Professor Masood said that Pakistan reported its first virus case on February 26 and now after passing of 50 days, the country might witness a sudden jump in COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the next 10 to 15 days.
He warned the federal and provincial governments of the emergency situation, the fatal virus could pose in the days to come, recommending a strict implementation of a countrywide lockdown. The professor also requested the general public to assist the government in the fight against coronavirus by following the recommended safety guidelines and practicing social distancing.
