ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a fresh move on Tuesday night distributed pamphlets in various parts of North Waziristan, ordering the locals to stay away “various sinful activities”, a copy of which is available with Naya Daur Media.
The TTP said, “Previously, we warned you regarding not practicing the following activities but no one followed that, but this time we will respond accordingly.”
The TTP has asked people to avoid music and ordered that no one will arrange DJ music not in or outside their houses. Moreover, loud music is forbidden in shops. In case of not following the instructions, the shops would be blown up.
The proscribed TTP has also warned women that they are not allowed to move without their family members as this act “is harmful to the dignity of the society”.
Warning the polio teams of serious consequences, the Taliban have asked them to only mark the children’s fingers and not vaccinate them.
They also said those providing information to the government regarding the TTP would soon “face the music”.
When contacted, a local journalist, on the condition of anonymity, said pamphlets were distributed in various parts of the Mirali area due to which the people were feeling threatened, but the administration had not responded to the issue yet.
On the other hand, Rehmat Mehsud – the Arab News correspondent from the area – told Naya Daur that the security situation was not satisfactory from last two months and the locals feared that violence would once again return to the region.
He added that security forces and political workers were a target of the TTP, but government didn’t take any measures to eradicate these elements.
Mehsud believes that uncertainty on the other side of the border is affecting the peace of North Waziristan. The proscribed organisation has established camps in the Afghan territory where the Kabul government doesn’t have its writ and they are planning terror activities on that side of the border, he said.
He suggested that peace would be restored in the area if administrative control is handed over to police and the army focused on the border.
Naya Daur Media made several attempts to contact the local administration but no one has responded till the filing of this report.
