Reports indicate that the Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser has tested positive for infection by the Coronavirus, as have his son and daughter.
The Speaker joins a number of other high-profile Pakistanis to test positive during the pandemic, including Governor Sindh Imran Ismail.
The official total number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Pakistan is now well above 16,000.
A few days earlier, there had been alarm-bells across the country after noted philanthropist Faisal Edhi, head of the Edhi Foundation, tested positive for the Coronavirus. He had met with a number of top civil, military and business leaders including PM Imran Khan. A subsequent test had indicated that the Prime Minister was not infected.
