Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed three employees working in Faisalabad’s Regional Tax Office on alleged corruption charges.
Pakistan Today reported that the dismissed officials include Jhang Zone UDC Abid Iqbal, notice server Javaid Masih, and security guard Manzoor Qadir. Another security guard, Aslam Pervaiz has been suspended for three months for the same reasons.
Meanwhile, the revenue authority has initiated a criminal investigation against the said employees for involvement in ‘corruption’ as well as ‘burning’ the official record.
In a separate inquiry, FBR has suspended Gwadar’s Model Customs Collectorate Appraisal Officer Syed Muhammad Salman Bukhari, RTO Faisalabad, and IRO Maqbool Ahmad for three months.
In May this year, Naya Daur reported that FBR awarded a key position to an AJK Accountability Bureau (AB) suspect, Qaiser Iqbal.
According to a notification issued in this regard, Qaiser Iqbal was ordered to assume charge as Chief Commissioner-IR, Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU), Lahore, replacing Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Tunio who had assumed charge of Lahore’s LTU a week before his transfer.
Qaiser Iqbal is an AJK AB suspect whose arrest warrants were issued in July 2012 ‘for allegedly indulging in massive corruption and irregularities of millions of rupees through misuse of powers’. Iqbal was serving as Commissioner Income Tax, Excise & Sales Tax in AJK at the time.
