Police in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi have arrested a private hospital’s ward boy for alleged attempted sexual assault on a physically challenged woman patient.
A news report in Dawn cited police officials as saying that the suspect had been arrested after the initial investigation supplemented the complainant’s claims that the suspect had attempted the crime and fled after the woman offered resistance.
An official told media that a man had complained to police that his wife was attacked by private hospital’s staff member in Block 2, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The man informed police that his wife had been admitted to the ICU on Tuesday and the hospital’s administration had been asked by the family to leave and return on Wednesday as attendants were not allowed in the ICU.
Official stated that the man found his wife crying and scared and narrated her ordeal to him.
The woman narrated that the ward boy had attempted to assault her in the middle of the night. Upon her resistance, he locked the door and threatened her. However, he made his escape when the woman screamed.
When the complaint was made, police made its way to the hospital and identified the suspect with the woman’s help.
The suspect has been charged under Section 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
