The journalist had isolated himself at home but was only brought to the hospital five days ago when his condition worsened, after being tested positive for the coronavirus, the HMC spokesperson, Touheed Zulfiqar told Dawn News.
He also said that the journalist was being treated with the plasma infusion and did get better even at a point, but it all came crashing down on Wednesday night when he was shifted to the ICU and put on a ventilator.
Dawn reported that Syed had been working for the TV channel 92 News. Previously he had worked for several reputed media organisations including Roznama Jihad, Roznama Pakistan, Aaj News and DawnNewsTV.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Ajmal Wazir, the adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, also remembered Syed in great words saying that "we will never forget his contributions to journalism".
Wazir also said that the journalists were aware of the dangers of reporting from the field during the time of a pandemic and they still went out there and got the job done.
He said that we pay tribute to journalists for getting the information out and also recognised them as frontline workers during this time of crisis.
