Edhi Foundation head Faisal Edhi, who narrowly escaped death after his boat was capsized in the sea during a rescue operation, said he along with his team was stranded at sea for more than 30 minutes before being saved by local fisherfolks.
Edhi along with his team members and Sindh Assembly lawmaker Raja Azhar was taking part in relief operations in the Malir River when they entered the sea. However, due to strong waves, the engine of their boat malfunctioned and it consequently capsized.
According to Edhi, they were stranded at sea for 30 minutes or more when they saw a boat of the local fishermen, who responded to their calls and rescue them.
Amid the current monsoon spell, Karachi has so far recorded over 345mm of rainfall in August, breaking the previous records. According to Met Office, downpour recorded in Karachi’s PAF Faisal Base surpassed the amount of rainfall previously recorded up to 298.4 decades ago.
According to data, the highest amount of rainfall, 72 millimetres, was recorded at Gulshan-e-Hadeed while Nazimabad recorded 51.6mm, North Karachi 37mm, Surjani Town 25.6mm, Landhi 11.5mm, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Faisal 11mm, Jinnah Terminal 9.6mm while University Road received 8.8mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, at least four people, including three children, lost their lives as rainwater continued to flood streets after two days of incessant rain, forcing the Sindh government to declare rain emergency in the province earlier this week.
