Opposition to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is rising due to concerns about his failure to run the affairs of Punjab, with a majority within his own party wanting him to be replaced.
According to a report in Dawn, replacing Usman Buzdar is increasingly being discussed among the party members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Members of the ruling party have stated in background interviews that the government was failing to run the province of Punjab. A senior leader of PTI told Dawn that they were dissatisfied with the performance of Usman Buzdar and a majority within the party wanted him replaced with a better and more active political leader.
Party members who want Buzdar out are still unsure as to how to proceed about replacing Buzdar. The PTI leader said that there existed a number of pressure groups within the party while allies such as the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) also had hidden ambitions.
He added that it was difficult to bring all the pressure groups on the same page regarding the chief ministership. He added that there were groups led by Jahangir Tareen, Muhammad Sarwar, and Aleem Khan.
A source in PTI’s core committee has stated that in the committee’s meeting on Sunday, it discussed the administrative failures in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan met with CM Buzdar following the core committee’s meeting in Islamabad. It was reported in local media that the prime minister expressed his disapproval over poor governance in Punjab.
