Pakistan Cries Foul Over Designation Under Religious Freedom Report By US

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has denied US State Department's recent claim that Pakistan is a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ when it comes to religious freedom, saying the US has no idea about the ground realities in the country.

MoFA Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui took to Twitter to release a statement which said they rejected the US report.

The statement further said that the country allows everyone to practice their faith freely.

It also moved on to talk about India and how it had been omitted from the list even though over 70 US senators had spoken in congress about the country’s gross human rights violations in Kashmir.

The watch list in which Pakistan was included was made under the US International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 and Pakistan was in the list because of its ‘systemic violations of religious freedoms’.
