Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement that terrorists in the past used Pakistani territory to carry out attacks in Iran in the past has been taken ‘largely out of the context’, the PM Office clarified on Wednesday.
"Prime Minister Imran Khan was talking about non-state actors using Pakistani soil under foreign influence to carry out activities in Pakistan or coordinating from Pakistan," the PM Office statement said. It also cited examples of non-state actors like Kulbhushan Yadav and their facilitators who were working under ‘foreign influence’.
The statement said that Iran and Afghanistan were also being used by similar elements in the ‘same manner’. "The same was clearly stated by the prime minister during his visit to Iran while referring to [the] latest incident in Balochistan," the handout added.
The PM Office further added that attacks such as the one in Balochistan were reason why PM Khan was calling for peace in the entire region. Moreover, the PM Office said that interpreting PM Khan’s remarks in any way other than explained by the office ‘doesn’t serve Pakistan in any way’.
On Monday, while addressing a joint-press conference along with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, PM Khan said that Iran’s territory was used to carry out the Ormara attack in Balochistan.
"And I know that Iran has suffered from terrorism which [was] from groups operating from within Pakistan," the premier added.
