Sharmeen Obaid's Animated Series ‘Aagahi’ Nominated at Cannes Lions International Fest
Academy award winner filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s animated series ‘Aagahi’ has been nominated at The 66th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

‘Aagahi’ has the distinction to be the first Pakistani series ever to be nominated for the prestigious award. The animated series has been nominated for the Sustainable Development Goals Lions in the Gender Equality category.

Chinoy, speaking about her first Cannes Lions nomination, said that the series is a campaign designed to create awareness in women so they are able to navigate the police and judicial system with confidence in Pakistan.

”The impact created in rural and urban communities through AAGAHI has been tremendous and we at SOC Films are delighted to be shortlisted for the Cannes Sustainable Development Goals award,” she added.

‘Aagahi’, in seven short animated films, has attempted to educate women on legal issues, including laws against domestic violence, divorce and inheritance rights, cyber-crimes and the procedure of filing an FIR. Actror Aamina Sheikh has lent her voice for the series that has been filmed in Urdu.

We at Naya Daur wish Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy good luck and hope she brings the trophy home.
