Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh has gone on a three-day leave under mysterious circumstances. The Capital City Police Office on Wednesday announced that Umar Sheikh would be on leave on October 21, 22 and 23. The development comes a day after the officer allegedly abused a woman complainant over the phone.
A spokesperson of the CCPO office said that Sheikh would perform his duties from October 24.
On Tuesday, an audio clip of Lahore CCPO went viral on social media in which he could be heard abusing a woman who telephoned him seeking help.
According to a private TV channel, the CCPO said that the clip was yet another ‘conspiracy’ against him. The woman introduced herself as a resident of Raiwind and tried to tell the CCPO how she was mistreated by a sub inspector, but the CCPO resorted to abuses in response.
Dawn reported that the woman had earlier written to the CCPO complaining that the said SI had ‘picked up’ her husband from their home in Raiwind and taken him to Lahore. She added that the SI later called her and demanded Rs3 million in return for her husband’s release and said he would nominate the man in a drug trafficking case.
However, the Lahore police have claimed that the woman’s husband was a habitual criminal and was taken into custody as per the law. The police also claimed that he has many cases registered against him in Kasur.
