Pakistan-Origin Doctor To Be Awarded With Prestigious Leibniz Prize In Germany
Dr Asifa Akhtar, a Pakistani-born molecular biologist, will be awarded with the prestigious 2021 Leibniz Prize by the German Research Foundation. Her groundbreaking cell-biological work on mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation has bagged her this award.

The prize is 2.5 million Euros and will be awarded in a virtual ceremony on March 15, 2021.

This is not the first time she has been honoured. Asifa has previously received the European Life Science Organization (ELSO) award for her significant contribution in the field in 2008. Dr Asifa is also the first female vice president at the Biological-Medical Section of the Max Planck Society.
