Social media users have said that the cancellation may be linked to right wingers’ reservations with Atif Mian on the grounds of his Ahmadi faith.
What is freedom if we aren't free enough to celebrate our own. From Salam to Atif Mian, from Fatima Jinnah to Malala, we've as a society consistently not allowed r people to celebrate their heroes.Instead have chosen to demonize them or whitewash inconvenient parts of their lives https://t.co/650oDGB7Xs

If you don't have the spine to stand up for your decisions.
Don't waste the time of @AtifRMian by calling him for seminars.

Dr. Atif Mian is a brilliant Pakistani economist & is globally renowned. But he is also Ahmadi.
It wouldn’t have mattered if Dr Atif was the first human to go to Jupiter. Pakistanis would have still declared him Kafir. This is Dr. Abdus Salam 2.0
Pakistan will NEVER learn. https://t.co/KolcNKWTXA

The way we have treated Atif Mian makes me angry. Still, that man has shown nothing but good faith for this thankless nation.

Why Atif Mian agrees to do anything for this country and its people is beyond me.

Meanwhile, an economist professor at the IBA tweeted the news with a ‘sad’ emoji, suggesting that the talk was cancelled under unpleasant circumstances.
