‘Struggle Is Against Those Who Installed Imran Khan’: Nawaz Breaks Silence
At the oppositions All Parties Conference (APC) hosted by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari thanked Pakistan Muslim League – N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif for attending the conference and prayed for his health. In his address to the APC, Zardari said that the government was suppressing opposition and the media. Referring to PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz, Zardari said: “We saw how she faced difficulties and we understand because my own sister and my wife went to jail.”
Zardari thanked supreme leader of the PML-N Nawaz Sharif for virtually attending the conference and asked everyone to pray for the deposed prime minister’s health.
He criticised the government over what he called were “tactics” to suppress the opposition and media.
In his address to the APC, Nawaz Sharif thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for organising the APC as well as former president Zardari. Nawaz added that even though he was abroad, he was aware of the ‘conditions’ Pakistan and the people are in. ”
‘APC must be fruitful’:
The former PM also said that it was necessary to protect democracy. He said that he agreed with Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s position that the APC needs to be meaningful otherwise the people would be disappointed.
Nawaz said that dishonouring the vote leads to failure of the democratic system which is rendered meaningless. “Public’s mandate is stolen and they are betrayed when it is decided before the polls that he would win or lose,” he said.
‘State above the state’
Nawaz Sharif, in his address, also reminded the attendees of the APC of former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani’s old statement that there was a ‘state within a state’ in Pakistan. Nawaz said that it was sad that the situation has now turned into a point where a state is above the state. He added that this ‘parallel government illness’ is the root cause of all of Pakistan’s problems.
‘Martial law enforced in Pakistan’
Nawaz Sharif said that a ‘martial law’ had been enforced by the government and criminals are free to make amendments to the constitution. He added, “Our struggle is not against Imran Khan, but against those who installed him and brought an incompetent man like him into power after manipulating the elections.”
