A list containing the names of 100 books banned by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has emerged on Wednesday.
Some of these banned books included: Qurtaba Social Studies by AS Publishers, Bookwise Social Studies by Bookwise Publishers, Elegant Social Studies by Hallmark Publishers, Hamza Social Studies by Ameer Haider and Company, Active English Workbook by Oxford University Press, English Classbook by United We Reach, Secondary Social Studies for Pakistan, Oxford University Press, Pak Cambridge Social Studies by Pak Cambridge Publishing, and Hamari Urdu by Oxford University Press.
The list was revealed in a tweet shared by journalist Benazir Shah.
These books were banned by the government over alleged anti-Islam and anti-Pakistan content a day after the Punjab Assembly passed Tahaffuz-e-Bunyad-e-Islam Bill that would allow the government to raid publishing houses and confiscate books.
However, the Punjab governor has not signed the bill after reservations were expressed over the sectarian nature of the bill.
