Follow SOPs On Eid To Avoid Resurgence Of Covid-19 Cases, PM Appeals To Public
Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the people to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during Eidul Azha to avert a second wave of Covid-19.

In a series of tweets, the prime minister reiterated that compliance with the government's anti-corona measures was necessary to 'sustain our positive trend'.

"Eid ul Azha must be celebrated with simplicity so as not to repeat what happened last Eid when SOPs were ignored & our hospitals were choked. I am ordering the strict implementation of govt SOPs."

On July 9, the PM made a similar appeal, saying that there'd be a spike in Covid-19 cases if people ignored the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on Eidul Azha.

Speaking about the recent decrease in coronavirus cases, the PM said that Pakistan was 'among the fortunate countries where Covid-19 cases in hospitals, esp in intensive care & death rate have gone down, unlike in our unfortunate neighbor India'.

He went on attribute this decrease to the government policy of smart lockdown and the compliance of people with the government's SOPs.

New coronavirus cases in Pakistan have continued to decline in the past two weeks. But health experts are skeptical about the government's claim, warning it is too early to declare victory against the virus that has already infected more than 250,000 people across the country with near 5,500 deaths, while around 70% of the patients have recovered.

On Tuesday, the country recorded slightly below 2,000 new cases, the lowest number of daily cases in months, compared to between 5,000 and 6,000 in May and June.
