PTI's Internal Rifts Bring Tania Aidrus' Digital Foundation Plan At Standstill

The Digital Foundation Plan that the former Google staffer Tania Aidrus and her colleague Khurram Jamali put forth is reportedly in shatters following PTI leader Jahangir Tareen's ouster and the party's continued infighting.

The duo had been in talks with the government since the early 2019, and these talks were facilitated by Tareen who was unofficially leading many of the initiatives related to reforms, a Business Recorder report said on Wednesday.

Following his ouster from the ministry, Tareen reportedly left the country for the UK, and now the Aidrus' plan is also in shatters. Just before his departure, the PTI leader also resigned from the board of Digital Pakistan Foundation. Due to his involvement in the project from the initial days, it's now being seen within the party ranks as a scandal.

The report quoted one of the sources close the developments as saying that Aidrus has been transparent about her ideas. The sole objective of the project is to raise money to attract Pakistani talent with good salaries, and PM Khan was made aware of it.

Sadly, as confirmed by Aidrus, the organization exists today without any federal budget assigned by the government. All the while, there does not seem to be an end to the infighting. Elements within the party have been leading attacks against Aidrus on the social media in attempts to have her ousted from her role of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Digital Pakistan.

The unfortunate part is, due to the campaign against the former Google staffer, it is the country that's taking the toll and is being deprived of the much-needed digitisation.
