A group of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) members allegedly attacked a Shia procession held to mark Youm-e-Ali outside an Imambargah in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area on Thursday night.

Journalist Fawad Hasan shared a video on Twitter, saying that TLP ‘goons’ attacked the Imam Bara in located in Liaquatabad, Karachi ahead of Youm-e-Ali that is being observed today [Friday].

However, a Twitter user in reply to Fawad’s tweet, posted another video, claiming that the incident took place when initially some men belonging to Shia community attacked the bike riders and their female family members with sticks.

Fawad further said, “Shia believers who saw this have shared that the attackers were from the same area, where TLP has now enormous following after MQM.”

On Thursday, a member of banned sectarian outfit Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) Toofan Khokhar warned that if Shia community takes out processions to mark Youm-e-Ali on 21st Ramzan, the ASWJ will also proceed to organise rallies throughout Pakistan on the same day regardless of coronavirus restrictions in the country.

Moreover on the same day, following the Sindh government’s notification to restrict religious processions and gatherings, Shia religious groups in the province had announced that they will commemorate Youm-e-Ali on the 21st of Ramzan ‘come what may’.
