SC Suspends LHC Decision Ordering Missing Lawyer Colonel Inam's Release
Supreme Court (SC) has suspended the Lahore High Court (IHC) decision ordering the release of detained human rights lawyer Colonel (r) Inam Rahim. Defence Ministry had recently admitted before the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) that the missing lawyer was in their custody and was being interrogated. They did not inform the court as to what the charges against him were.

On Monday, the court had ordered the government to release him, but the apex court has suspended this decision after hearing the attorney general's arguments before the court.

The AG appeared before the SC and claimed that Colonel Inam is part of a criminal network which has been leaking sensitive information related to Inter Service Intelligence (ISI). The SC maintained that the allegations were serious and the evidence against him is available due to which the government has the right to proceed with the investigation. The court, however, stated that the lawyer must be assisted after the investigation is completed.

Colonel Inam was picked up from his home in December and his whereabouts remained unknown for a few days until the Defence Ministry revealed that he was in their custody.
