NA Passes Zainab Alert Bill Against Child Abuse
The National Assembly has passed the Zainab Alert Bill and the Islamabad Capital Territory Persons with Disabilities Bill.

The Zainab Alert Bill will introduce an alert and recovery mechanism for missing children. The bill was tabled in October 2019, as a result of the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl, Zainab Ansari, in Kasur in January 2018.

According to the bill, an agency will be set up that will closely coordinate with 1099 (Ministry of Human Rights) helpline and will also include an SMS service to spread information about missing children. Special teams led by a senior police officer who will work with local authorities in the cases of missing children.

According to Samaa.tv, the bill has also proposed the death sentence, life imprisonment or rigorous imprisonment for a term extending to 14 years.

On the other hand, the ICT Persons with Disabilities Bill, was drafted by the Human Rights Ministry in 2017, is the first national-level legislation on the rights of people living with disabilities.
