'Arrested' Baloch Women Critical Due To Alleged Torture In Custody
Two of the women who had allegedly been arrested in Awaran last week have been hospitalised in a critical condition as a result of inhuman treatment and severe torture in custody, according to a Baloch human rights organisation.

Last week, four Baloch women had been arrested from different parts of Awaran district in Balochistan. Rights activists had claimed that the women had been forcibly picked up, while according to a report in Dawn, the Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s acting president had said that they had been arrested, but without any warrants.

On Monday, the Baloch Human Rights Organisation stated that two of the abducted women, Hameeda and Nazal had been hospitalised in a critical condition as a result of inhuman treatment and severe torture in detention.

The rights organisation further said that earlier, they had been sent to jail for interrogation due to unavailability of space in the police station, adding that the worst human rights violations were being witnessed in Balochistan.

Following the alleged arrest last week, a news report in Dawn had reported that the Balochistan National Party-Mengal had expressed disbelief over why the provincial government had not taken action against those involved in the Awaran incident, whereby four Baloch women were picked up from their homes without showing any warrants and put behind bars.

A BNP-M leader had said the four women were picked up from their home at night and presented before media personnel in the presence of Levies and police personnel. He added that the women were shown with weapons authorities claimed belonged to them.
