ISLAMABAD: JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has categorically rejected a proposal put forward by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that the JUI-F should postpone its plans of locking down Islamabad in October this year.
A JUI-F member, who was present during the meeting between the two leaders on Wednesday at Maulana’s house in Islamabad, told NayaDaur Media that Bilawal’s contention was that all political parties should unify and support the government on the issue of Kashmir keeping in view of the Indian government’s decision to abolish Article 370.
But Maulana refused, saying that his party will attend the All Parties Conference on Kashmir after Eid, but giving more time to “this illegitimate government” is tantamount to hurting the Kashmir cause and the future of democracy in Pakistan, NayaDaur Media was told.
During the meeting, Maulana confronted Bilawal that it was his (Bilawal) idea that the demonstrations be delayed as it might pave way for martial law and instead no-confidence motion be moved against the Senate chairman.
“I agree with you that another motion be moved against the Senate chairman but it does not mean we should focus all our energies on removing the Senate chairman only,” Maulana told Bilawal.
“First we need to identify those senators who went against their parties’ decision and find out what weaknesses of theirs were exploited by the government. Once we address their concerns, then we should move another no-confidence motion,” Maulana said.
He also expressed displeasure over badmouthing each other by PML-N and PPP members over the no-confidence motion issue and requested both Bilawal and Shehbaz Sharif to stop their party members from hurting the opposition’s unity.
The source added that there is immense pressure on Maulana from ‘certain quarters’ to refrain from locking down Islamabad in October but he is in no mood to desist from his plans.
