The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government has approved a plan to sack 2,400 employees of state-run Pakistan Television (PTV).
Digital news outlet Baaghi TV reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the new business plan of PTV, according to which 2,400 employees would be laid off. It was reported that the employees who were hired on ‘political influence’ would be fired.
The government has also drafted a list of ‘ghost employees’ working in the state-run channel. Meanwhile, the employees of PTV have warned that if they would be sacked, they would react strongly and hold protests across the country.
Journalist Sanaullah Khan associated with English daily DAWN also posted a tweet in this regard, saying that PM Imran has approved the plan to sack 2,400 employees of PTV.

On Friday, the government had approved an increase of Rs 65, from. 35 to Rs. 100, in PTV license fee. According to sources, the government had sought approval from the federal cabinet to increase PTV license fee through a circulation.
The additional amount will be added to the electricity bills of the consumers. In case of approval, the decision will put an additional burden of Rs 21 billion on consumers annually.
