Kasur has been shaken again as bodies of three minors were recovered by Chunian police in the sand dunes near Chunian bypass on Tuesday.
According to a report in Dawn, the minors seemed to have been murdered after being sexually assaulted.
Three children, between the ages of eight and twelve, had been missing since June, while one boy had gone missing in the area on Monday. The boys include Faizan, 8, who was the latest disappearance, Muhammad Imran, 12, Ali Husnain, 9, and Suleman Akram, 8. One of the bodies recovered on Tuesday has been identified as that of Faizan, while the other two were believed to be those of Ali and Suleman.
The police have registered a case against unidentified kidnappers. They have still not found any clue as to the whereabouts of Imran. The locals are under a suspicion that a racket was involved in the sexual assault and murder.
The District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani reached the area and police cordoned off the area while the services of forensics experts were sought.
The DPO informed media that five teams have been formed to locate the culprits. He stated that the police were utilizing all resources to arrest the murderers.
Qaisarani also apprised media that rape would be confirmed after a medical report, however, he denied the presence of any racket.
On Monday, Chunian residents had protested against the police failure to recover the missing boys.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the murders and has sought a report from the Punjab inspector general of police. The chief minister has also directed the police to nab the culprits as soon as possible.
A call for protests has been given by the civil society today against the killing of the minors to express concern over the failure of authorities to protect the lives of people.
In 2015, a village near Kasur received widespread attention after a child pornography ring was busted. The gang had made hundreds of videos of minor boys and girls being forced to perform sexual acts. The videos were used to blackmail families of the victims and extort money from them.
