A 13-year-old girl who had been allegedly raped for several months has given birth to an infant in Shaikh Zaid Hospital in Larkana.
Hospital sources informed media that the girl was brought to the hospital in police custody owing to threats from her alleged rapists.
Meanwhile, DNA samples of the newborn child have been collected for forensic analysis.
An FIR had been registered against four persons at Jacobabad’s Civil Lines Police Station. Two of the suspects, Zafarullah Surhiyo and Kamran Pathan had been arrested, but were later released on bail. The other two suspects were never arrested by the police.
The victim was 12 years old at the time. Her mother only came to know of the rape when she got pregnant.
The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter used to go to Zafarullah’s residence who gave them free meals.
Authorities have yet been unable to figure out who raped the girl, as they are still waiting for the DNA results.
The minor girl’s mother has made an appeal to the judiciary and the government to ensure justice in the matter.
