Islamabad: As many as 100 police officers of Capital Territory Police (CTP) have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, the police’s spokesperson told Naya Daur.

PRO of IG Islamabad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan and spokesperson of CTP, Zia Bajawa, said that 100 police officers were tested positive for coronavirus, out of which 30 have recovered and resumed their duties. He said that remaining 70 officials are currently in quarantine in stable condition.

“There some police officials whose data isn’t available as they were quarantined in their respective homes. According to an estimate, almost 200 police officers of CTP had contracted the fatal virus.”

The Covid-19 infected police officers were deployed on security of the Parliament House, Supreme Court, Prime Minister House and other government departments. At least 11 traffic police officials have also contracted Covid-19.

When contacted, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Waqar Uddin Syed said that 75 officers from all the rank and file tested positive coronavirus. “We are conducting frequent screening of all the staffers in every unit on daily basis and their history sheets are also maintained,” he said, adding that the officials’ temperature was checked regularly when they enter the office.

The DIG said that the police are facing multiple challenges, including the enforcement of government’s SOPs while maintaining the dignity of citizens. “We have been facing hostility and unfair criticism from the general public,” he added.

Meanwhile, four police officials, including a SP, have resumed their duties in the security division after defeating the deadly disease.
