Former president Pervez Musharraf has reacted to the Special Court verdict awarding him death sentence for high treason and said that he was not given a chance to defend himself. In a video message released from the hospital, the ailing former president said that for the first time, the defendant and his lawyer weren't heard.
He said that he was ready to give statement to commission if the members come to him, but the request was ignored. "The verdict is controversial because rule of law was ignored throughout the hearing of the case.", he added.
Musharraf went on to say that the case was taken up due to some people who held grudges against him and they misused the law to target an individual.
He further said that he respected the judiciary and is confident that he would be served justice. "I thank the nation and armed forces for remembering my services to the nation."
The former president said he would decide his future course of action after holding consultations with his legal team
