People in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) used violence and mob politics to blackmail the state and to force the fulfillment of their demands, said senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Rs23 billion subsidy package for the people of AJK. The government also announced a Rs 1,100/40 kg reduction in wheat prices along with the provision of electricity at production cost.
The analyst termed the AJK protests a replica of the May 9 riots, saying that political parties are of the view that they can also stage violent protests and riots to fulfill their justified and unjustified demands as the culprits of the May 9 riots have not been punished so far.
Suharwardy said that those who resorted to violence during protests in AJK should be held accountable for their actions.
While responding to a question regarding Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa’s remarks in which he warned those who disseminate fake news, the analyst said that all over the world, courts impose heavy fines in defamation cases, but there is no such practice in Pakistan.
He said that CJP’s leniency is resulting in the spread of fake news, adding that the court should impose heavy fines in defamation cases.
To another question, Suharwardy said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has resigned from the post of president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Nawaz Sharif will now become the president of the party, and he will reorganize the party and prepare it for the next general elections.
