Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa played an important role in the conclusion of the six-year-long treason case against former dictator General (r) Pervez Musharraf by preventing it from delays.
According to a report in Express Tribune, senior lawyers are of the view that Justice Khosa has played an important role in the case against Musharraf.
The treason case, which started in 2013, had been pending due to various reasons.
Justice Khosa had in the past expressed unhappiness over the interference by the high courts to stop the proceedings against Musharraf.
In November 2014, a three-judge special court had ordered that the names of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz and former chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar as co-accused in the case. The order led to the proceedings being suspended till 2016.
In 2016, Justice Khosa set aside the special court’s order and ordered that the trial against Musharraf be finished.
Moreover, after becoming the chief justice in January 2019, Justice Khosa took up the matter regarding the delay in the trial.
In April, CJP presided over a three member bench which directed the special court to move ahead with the trial and conclude the matter, maintaining that because the accused voluntarily did not join the court proceedings. He further observed that if the accused failed to show up, he would lose his right to an audience.
