KHAR: The All Fata Khasadar and Levies Force Rights Committee, after rejecting the passage of the Khasadar and Levies forces bill by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, announced the launch of a protest movement seeking the integration of both these forces with the provincial police.
Announcement for the protest movement was made during a conference on ‘Rights of Khasadar and Levies Forces’ held here at the Levies Lines.
All Fata Khasadar and Levies Forces Rights Committee Chairman Said Jalal Wazir and other senior officials of the Khasadar and Levies forces from Bajaur and other tribal districts attended the conference to discuss ways to force the government to ensure that the two forces were merged with police.
Other guests at the event included tribal elders, leaders of political and religious parties, PakistanTehreek Insaf’s (PTI) member of National Assembly (MNA) Gul Dad Khan and member of provincial assembly (MPA) Ajmal Khan, along with district police officer Pir Shahab Ali Shah.
During their address, speakers at the conference lashed out at the provincial government over the passage of the Khasadar and Levies forces bill, saying that the bill was meant to integrate 28,000 personnel of the two forces with the provincial police rather than merging them with the tribal police.
They further said that the bills were passed without a debate in violation of the Fata Reforms Bill 2018, and it did not ensure the welfare of the personnel.
Speakers said that under the Fata Reforms Bill, all personnel of the Khasadar and Levies forces should have become part of the police force after the KP-Fata merger, but the step had not been taken yet by the authorities concerned.
They said that the legislation was passed in violation of the commitment made to them by the provincial government and KP chief minister in connection with the merger of Khasadar and Levies forces with the provincial police.
The speakers also said that the residents of all tribal districts would support the two tribal forces in their just struggle, while adding that a peaceful yet forceful protest was the only way to force the government to integrate both the forces with the police.
Moreover, speakers regretted that government was unwilling to move ahead with the merger of the Khasadar and Levies personnel with the police force even though the tribal districts had now become a part of the province.
Addressing participants, Jalal Wazir said that the protest movement would be extended to all tribal districts of the province and the drive would continue until their demands were met.
He said that Khasadar and Levies personnel would not work under the command of the police in the tribal districts, while calling upon all non-local police officials to immediately leave the tribal districts.
